Joinery

At Timber Ridge, we specialize in traditional joinery, along with traditional tools. We use large chisels & mallets to form and shape the intricate connections that make up a Timber Frame. We also use modern tools such as chainsaws, mortise machines, routers, planers, etc., to complete the project. The mortise and tenon joinery in your frame not only connects each timber to eachother, it transfers loads through each timber to balance the compression and tension forces throughout the frame. Each timber plays an important role in this structure, thus creating a self-supporting solid frame to last for years to come. We use solid timbers – 8 x 12 rafters, 8 x 10 posts, 8 x 12 girders, 4 x 8 joists, 4 x 6 braces, 6 x 8 or 6 x 10 eave girts (depending on the frame style) for strength & stability, along with traditional joinery in all aspects.
